about
‘Boats’ explores the difficulties and upsides of being locked-down during the pandemic. Using their favourite metaphor - the sea - the song switches between jaunty, sea-shanty melodies and aggressive rhythms. It speaks about the isolation and boredom but also of making the most of an enforced pause, as well as the many positive implications that can be drawn from any widely shared, human experience.
lyrics
Boats are rolling on the sea
Navy cut an instant no-no
Roses growing in the dust
Feeding on the nascent ground
I’m in no mind
I waste my time
Make like four degrees from progress
Stand me on this line
When your powers of ten exceed
One or two are known to me
Visibly disagree
When you go away you see
Numbers on the star-lit ground
I was dreaming
Never speaking
Loads to bear ubiquity
Selling you the same old sound
I'm in no mind
I waste my time
Make like four degrees from progress
Stand me on this line
When your powers of ten exceed
So below my fine
Bigger portion better process
Sow disgust inside
Never make it back to sea
Claim me now
In domine tu
Earth be overreached
Sink in dreams
Like Numenor
Returning to the sea
Safe?
No-one's safe
Babies break
God has no teeth
I've had enough of fear
And slow obedience
It brings me to my knees
